This peach sorbet homemade ice cream is a great addition to your summer dessert rotation. Perfect for an outdoor barbecue.
Sorbet...sounds fancy, doesn’t it? Sounds expensive and foreign, right? This delicious, icy confection is said to have started in Renaissance Europe, but it didn’t remain there.
It swiftly became a world-wide sensation. It is one of the first frozen treats every made and has been enjoyed by the multitudes (in some form) for generations.
And, it is actually quite simple…two main ingredients…fruit and sugar. Yep…you heard it here…super easy. This recipe also adds a touch of lemon juice but it is primarily peach and sugar.
Peach Sorbet Homemade Ice Cream (Electric Ice Cream Maker)
In the deep South you will find an electric ice cream maker is considered an essential household appliance to those of us who appreciate home made ice cream, sherbet, or sorbet.
They are easy to operate, and you just follow the manufacturer’s directions. You can buy them at Walmart, other department stores, or online.
Quick tips about making homemade ice cream
Ice cream salt or rock salt as it is often called is used rather than table salt because it lowers the freezing temperature of the ingredients. Mix the rock salt with ice. This forms a saltwater slush around the ice cream or sorbet, cooling the base enough it will thicken and freeze before the ice can melt.
It seems strange that the half-melting salt water can actually be colder than ice cubes…but it works! Thus, people have been enjoying this frozen dessert for ages.
