Southern White Gravy

This white gravy is exactly what you need for your chicken fried steak, or whatever else you want to make uber-yummy.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups milk (whole milk works best)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • salt and pepper

Instructions
 

  • Place the butter in your skillet and heat at medium-high heat on your stovetop, until fully melted.
  • Stir in the flour and let it break down in the butter for a couple minutes. Then slowly add in the milk, while continuing to stir. It will thicken after a few minutes.
  • Remove from heat. Stir in salt and pepper to taste.

    I thought I was the only one that made my white gravy like this. I’m 58 years young & this is exactly how my mother & her mother’s recipe deep here in San Antonio. I couldn’t believe how many other recipes called for 15 + ingredients. Simple cooking, simple ingredients are always the best.
